Michael Alexander

Director of Litigation Services

A professional with years of legal and tax experience, Michael Alexander is the Director of Litigation Services for State Tax Consulting, Inc. Mr. Alexander has a diverse background, having served as a litigating attorney, a legislative draftsman, and an administrative judge.

Michael has over 25 years experience in the government sector, holding the position of Legal Advisor to the Office of Tax Operations in the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance. He was also the Director of Litigation and Litigation Counsel for the Office of Counsel for 13 years. From 1981 to 1983, he was Secretary to the State Tax Commission.

While working for New York State he was also Deputy Director of Instructions and Interpretations for Technical Services, Hearing Officer and Secretary for the State Tax Commission.

Michael was instrumental in drafting the Rules of Practice before the State Tax Commission, which served as the regulations for tax practice in New York State for two decades. He also provided liaison assistance between the Office of Counsel and the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance.

These diverse experiences have given him a comprehensive tax background with full knowledge of departmental operations and the ability to negotiate, arbitrate, litigate or adjudicate successfully on behalf of clients.

Michael’s many accomplishments include being acknowledged via certificate from the New York State Bar Association as a speaker of record at tax practice and procedures seminars.

He also served as chairman of a major political party for five years. During this time he led an organization that had held no elected office in its history to become a successful party, holding the majority of seats on the Town Board and the office of Supervisor.

Mr. Alexander graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1960 and earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1967.
